The city of Dubrovnik/Ragusa was built on maritime trade.
In the Middle Ages it became the only city-state in the Adriatic to rival Venice.
Supported by its wealth and skilled diplomacy, the city achieved a remarkable level of development during the 15th and 16th centuries.
Furthermore, Dubrovnik was one of the centers of the development of the Croatian language and literature, home to many notable poets, playwrights, painters, mathematicians, physicists and other scholars, more.
Dubrovnik is a city with a unique political and cultural history (Dubrovnik Republic, Dubrovnik Statute from 1272), and world famous monumental heritage and beauty (inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List).
Dubrovnik is one of the most attractive and most popular cities on the Mediterranean. It is attractive any time of the year, being a city of history,
beautiful landscapes, favorable weather, and an enviable ecological standard making it ideal for your wedding celebration.
It is surely going to put a spell on you as it's area bursts with romantic and interesting wedding venues. Within The City Walls:
Sponza Palace and Rector's Palace
show Dubrovnik's best historical aspect, so does the Pucic Palace and
different City Walls venues, Lovrijenac fortress (definitely unbeatable views). Moreover there are wedding venues adjacent to the Old Town: Grand Villa Argentina,
Villa Dubrovnik, Excelsior, Rixos closing the city zone with hotel Palace, hotel
Neptun and Lapad.
A few great wedding venues on Island of Lokrum and at least one on each of Elaphiti: island of Kolocep, Lopud or
Sipan. If you decide to move out of town north there is Cavtat (the most southern town in Croatia) and Konavle region.
You'll notice many signs around the Old Town saying: 'Old City' or 'Old Town' and that's really way to reference the historic Dubrovnik. Locals would say just 'Grad' (croatian for 'City'), actually in Dubrovnik local accent it would get more close to 'Groad'. Check for some other Dubrovnik tips (brainstormed).
